Grass seed needs four things to germinate.

Aeration. More than Pampering?

Lawn aeration had always been a joke to me. A guy would come out, run over the lawn with a quickie aerator, collect his dough, and scamper to the next job. The homeowner would concede, “I don’t know if it really helps anything – but it sure costs enough, it had BETTER help .”

I scoured articles on aeration and talked to other landscapers. Read, and re-read the features and benefits. Almost everyone agreed, aeration is great! Experts recommend it! You can do it when it rains. This, that, the other thing… blah, blah, BLAH…

Still… those quickie aerators bugged the tar out of me. What to do?

We broke down and shelled out $4,770 for the demo model from my local dealer. A mad man couldn’t pull plugs faster! It was like a flock of geese had camped out in my yard for the week.  And it took at least 3 times longer then those other guys - argh.

The next rain melted all the plugs and the holes seemed to disappear. Then we waited…

Change was glaringly subtle. The grass blades stood more erect and smirked that extra oomph. My wife commented, “The lawn feels softer to walk on.”

It’s like my massage therapist puts it, “People today look to massage therapy for more than pampering. There’s actual health benefits!” Maybe those quickie aerators are just pampering.

I’ll never know but I do know this.
Massage and aeration are a big deal!
